I just remember it from maybe before the renovation the article mentions; the theater was just weirdly shaped, the sound and video were sketchy, and the air conditioning died right before the film. I like to support the local guy and not the chain, but they have to be relatively the same level of service...

I'm with you on this. I'd much rather support a local business than a chain, but every time I went there the picture was out of focus or didn't fit correctly on the screen, and had bad sound and video. I eventually stopped going there because the waterfront or southside works cost about the same anyway, and their movies were of drastically better quality.

I'm surprised it hadn't already closed because of the development deal that's in the works for that block. My son's karate school on the corner moved over a year ago. That nice little coffee place has been closed sporadically over the past year, too. It has a charm to it that I'll miss quite a lot, but at least many of the films that it would show there will be a few blocks away at its sister theater, The Manor. I'm wondering what will become of its fantastic marquee, of which you can get such a great view from those little, winding streets above it, just beyond Forward Ave.

I think the project's cancelled. Equity has for rent signs in all the windows.

I think it's just delayed. I've seen those signs, too. Even so, tenants along there seem to have pretty much given up on staying there for very long. It's looking thoroughly blighted.

Damnit. I used to go to that theater when I lived in Squirrel Hill. :(
