Cheap Appliances

So my boyfriend and I just bought a house - subsequently we have very little money for appliances and furniture.

a store called Daniel's in the pleasant hills area was suggested to us - in that they have a scratch and dent center where you can get really good deals on stuff that's just got cosmetic damage.

OK fine.

While we did get an amazing deal - I would never ever shop there again. And I just thought I'd throw it out there to everyone else. If you want cheap, go for it, but if you want delivery when you ask for it, and actual customer service - then go somewhere else.

They were supposed to deliver a washer, dryer, and microwave on Tuesday. They called me Tuesday morning and told me they oversold on the washer and that they would deliver everything to us on Wednesday. Well, I know that in our area they deliver before noon. So when 1:00 rolled around I hadn't received a phone call or my appliances, I decided to call them. (I was only at the house to recieve the delivery as we haven't moved in yet) And the guy was like - oh, well, we still don't have your washer, they'll be out tommorow to deliver.
They deliver the products today. The first guy walks in, has mud all over his shoes - never gives me a chance to ask him to take his shoes off or put booties on or anything like that, leaves muddy footprints all over my brand new two shades away from white carpet. Never once even said a word to me except when he was leaving he shoved a cruddy folded up piece of paper in my hand and said "sign this."

I will not ever recommend them to anyone, nor will we ever shop there again - no matter how good of a deal we can get. It's not worth the hassle.

I know the store you're talking about. Sorry to hear you had such a bad experience.

Here's a local article on scratch and dent shopping you might find useful in the future.

Make sure you complain to the store management. They may be contracting the delivery out and would be interested in hearing about your problems.

letters can be better. keeps the immediate anger out of the picture, and better composed overall.

And you can make demands plainer. As in "I feel the delivery charge should be completely refunded, or the professional cleaning bill for my carpet be paid in full."

Actually, the cleaning bill might be a good idea. It's hard for shopeowners to blow you off when there is actual provable damage.

The guys I know are deliverymen for Daniel's, and they are Daniel's employees. (Well, I should say, knew.) It and Bardan Appliance (right across Brownsville on Horning Road) employs the same people.

Do you know the names of your deliverymen, out of curiosity? I may be able to give a personal reference of "suck," if you do. Haha.

no i don't. we actually went through Bardan, but everytime they call they call themselves Daniel's so i've kinda stuck on that name...

I have no idea what their names were - I never even heard them talk except for the one guy who said "sign this"

I know you get what you pay for, but there should be some ounce of respect given to the home owner and their property, ya know? idiots is all i can say. . .

Daniel's is not too far from my own home. I know some of the people who work there - and I'm not at all surprised by the customer service. The guys I know are jerks.

Complete and total jerks. I didn't even like the people in the store, but the delivery service/people cut the cake for me. When we were originally shopping, despite the prices, I was like - I don't like this store, I don't like the people who work here, it gave me a bad vibe. I shoulda known then.

I got all my stuff from the sears warehouse in Lawrenceville. They always had great people deliver stuff when it was necessary.

yeah...I thought about that place - but unfortunatly Lawrencville is not the easiest place to get to from where we are. (middle of nowhere) plus my mom struck out there a few months back when she needed stuff - said the prices weren't worth the drive out there. Still a consideration though since our dryer is defective.

The prices depend on what they have and what you are looking for. I was able to get a new washed (HE, no center post, fancy shmancy) for like $350. I got a new dishwasher there - list price of $420 for $240. I was able to get a new fridge for my tenant's place for $130. Usually the prices run 30 to 60% off list.

Its really a place you need to go over a period of time as their stock constantly changes.
